Speaking of design, there’s barely a corner of my Cosmic Codes that loves structure or planning. I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say I’m designed for freedom, change and receptivity (aka going with the flow). I have had to learn how structure can be my friend and actually create even more freedom in my life and business.
Ironically, structure and clear plans is something I am quite gifted at when it comes to literally anyone that’s not me. I have a knack for seeing the bigger picture and putting together a plan that’s simple, clear and easy to execute. When I say branding, I’m not just talking about fonts and colours and logos. I’m talking about you—your identity, who you are. Because that’s essentially what your business is born from; it’s something that wants to be expressed through you. COPYWRITING + EDITING
Being in business requires excellent communication skills, but that doesn’t mean you love to write. Maybe writing feels like a natural form of expression to you, but maybe it feels like a chore. Lucky for me, writing is one of my first loves. I was the kid who wrote and (poorly) illustrated books for fun. My nightly practice of journaling by candlelight is how I survived my teenage years. (It’s also when I somehow learned the word elucubrate, whose original 1600s meaning is ‘to write by candlelight’. So old school.)
But even with my love of writing and background in journalism, I still struggled when I first started creating marketing and client education content. It was a whole different style of writing from my creative pursuits and journalism work—or so I thought.
While there are certainly writing and editing techniques that play into well-crafted content, the most important element is being clear and confident in what you’re communicating. Your writing style is what infuses your message with your unique brand voice and energetic signature. It’s the siren that calls in your most aligned clients.
